How Can I Configure Alerts for Specific Mention Segments or Filters?

Updated over 2 months ago

Receiving alerts for every single mention of your brand can quickly become overwhelming, especially if your brand attracts a high volume of online discussions. To make your alerts more actionable, it’s important to filter out the noise and focus only on the mentions that truly matter.

BrandMentions makes this easy by allowing you to configure alerts for specific mention segments or custom filters. This way, you can send the right notifications to the right people, at the right time, ensuring that your alerts remain relevant and strategic.

How to Configure Alerts for Specific Mention Segments

You can configure mention filters when creating a new alert or editing an existing one. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Alerts Section
From your BrandMentions dashboard, click on Alerts in the left sidebar to open the Alerts dashboard.

  2. Create or Edit an Alert

    • To create a new alert, click + New Alert.

    • To modify an existing one, find it in the list and click the Edit icon.

  3. Find the “Filters” Option
In the alert configuration window, look for the Filters section. This is where you can define which types of mentions you want your alert to include.

  4. Choose Your Filters
By default, alerts are set to All Mentions. Click this option to open the filter dropdown menu and customize your alert based on specific parameters such as:

    • Sentiment: Receive alerts only for positive, negative, or neutral mentions. This is ideal for crisis detection or positive engagement tracking.

    • Keywords: Focus alerts on one particular keyword if your project tracks multiple ones.

    • Source: Limit alerts to specific platforms like news sites, blogs, or social media.

    • Language or Country: Get alerts for mentions from certain regions or in specific languages to support localized campaigns.

Here's how to create filters for your alerts.

  5. Save Your Alert
After selecting your filters, click Save. Your alert will now only trigger for mentions that match your chosen criteria.

Strategic Use Cases for Segmented Alerts

Using filters effectively allows you to tailor alerts to your team’s needs. Below are some common and impactful ways to use segmented alerts:
