How Do I Run an AI-Powered Analysis on My Mentions or Analytics Charts?

Updated over a month ago

The AI Analysis feature in BrandMentions helps you understand your data in seconds. With one click, you get an AI generated summary of key insights, trends, and anomalies from your mentions or analytics charts.

Think of it as a built in data analyst that quickly explains what is happening with your brand.

Where you can use AI Analysis

You can run AI powered analysis in two main places:

  • On your Mentions feed

  • On your Analytics charts

Below are step by step instructions for both.

How to run AI Analysis on your Mentions feed

  1. Open your project Mentions feed
Go to the project you want to analyze and check the Mentions & Reach chart.

  2. Look for AI insight icons on the chart

    • On the timeline, you will see small AI icons on specific dates where the system detected an important spike or change in mentions.

  3. Click an AI insight icon

    • Click one of these icons to open the AI insight panel for that date.

    • A popup appears that includes:

      • The date of the spike

      • An AI generated explanation of what caused the spike, for example product promotions, news, or discussions about your brand

      • A “View mentions” link

  4. Drill down into the mentions (optional)

    • Click “View mentions” to open the list of mentions that contributed to that spike, already filtered for that date and context.

How to run AI Analysis on your Analytics charts

  1. Go to your Analytics dashboard
Open the Analytics section for the project you want to review.

  2. Choose the chart you want to analyze
For example, Sentiment over time, Mentions over time, or Share of voice, etc.

  3. Hover over the chart
When you move your cursor over the chart, you will often see a small AI icon appear. It might look like a spark, brain, or similar AI symbol.

  4. Click the AI icon
Click the icon to run AI Analysis for that specific chart.

The AI will generate a short summary, for example:

    • A spike in negative sentiment last week and a likely cause

    • A steady increase in mentions around a product launch

    • A dip in volume linked to a specific time period or channel

Best practices for using AI Analysis

1. Use it as a starting point

Treat AI Analysis as your first step, not the final one.

  • Use the summary to spot interesting patterns and issues

  • Then click into the data, mentions, or charts to explore further

2. Combine with the AI Assistant

If the AI Analysis raises questions, you can:

  • Ask the AI Assistant follow up questions such as:

    • "Why did negative sentiment increase last week?"

    • "Give me examples of mentions behind this spike."

This helps you move from a quick overview to deeper insight.

3. Always validate important findings

For key decisions, always validate AI insights:

  • Check the underlying mentions or charts

  • Confirm that the examples match your understanding of the brand and context

You let AI handle the heavy reading, while you stay focused on strategy and action.
