How to edit a project?

Updated over 11 months ago

To make changes or edits to your projects, go to the Settings section in the left sidebar.

What project settings can you edit?

Within the Project Settings area, you can make changes to the following items:

  • Keywords to track

  • Sources

  • Languages & Countries

  • Historical Data

  • Real Time Monitoring

  • Sentiment Analysis

  • Project Name

  • Delete Project

Keywords to track

Within this section you can add more keywords to track, add extra settings to your already monitored keywords or delete the keyword.

For each tracked keyword, you can choose from one of these monitoring settings:

  • exact match (we will track the keyword(s) exactly the way you've added it)

  • broad match (we will track your keyword(s), including synonyms, misspellings, and many other related variations, including mentions that don’t contain the exact keyword terms; this feature works great for topics tracking)

  • case sensitive (we will track the keyword just the way you add it, keeping count of capital and lowercase letters)

You can fine- tune even more the analysis by using these two options:

Mentions must contain any of these words

Define words or phrases that must be present in mentions for them to be tracked.

  • Word: The keyword required in mentions.

  • Match type: Indicates if the keyword match is case-sensitive or an exact match.

  • Applied to: Specifies if the rule applies to specific monitored keywords or all mentions.

  • Found in: Indicates where the keyword must appear (e.g., "in the proximity of the monitored keyword" or "anywhere in the context").

Exclude mentions that contain any of these words

Define words or phrases that should exclude a mention from being tracked.

  • Word: The term that, if found, will exclude the mention.

  • Match type: Indicates if the match is case-sensitive or an exact match.

  • Applied to: Specifies where the exclusion rule applies (specific keyword or all mentions).

  • Found in: Location of the exclusion term in the mention (e.g., anywhere in the context)

Activate Boolean Query Tracking: Check this box to use Boolean operators for more advanced keyword tracking, allowing complex query structures.

Sources to Track

By default, all sources available on your plan are ON; yet, you can switch OFF any of the sources you don't want to receive mentions from.

You can add specific profiles or pages for each platform under Additional Sources by entering URLs. For example, you can monitor a specific Facebook page, Twitter profile, or Instagram account as well as an Booking or Google business page. This allows for more targeted tracking across platforms important to your brand.

Language & Countries

Here you can select the countries and languages you want to track.

By default, all languages and countries are tracked. BrandMentions supports over 120 countries and languages. Depending on your subscription, you can create multi-lingual projects, meaning that you can track different countries and languages within the same project.

For a better monitoring process, you can also exclude mentions coming from specific countries and languages.

Historical Data

In the Historical Data section, you can retrieve past mentions for your current project. BrandMentions allows you to process historical data going back up to 10 years.

To extract historical data:

  1. Select Time Interval: Choose a time range for the historical data you want to retrieve, such as the last 3 months.

  2. Extract Historical Data: Click the Extract Historical Data button to initiate data processing for the selected interval.

Real Time Monitoring

If your subscription allows, you can activate real-time monitoring. This way you'll receive mention alerts and data will be displayed within your account faster. Otherwise, the data will be updated once a day.

Sentiment Analysis

BrandMentions allows you to customize sentiment analysis by defining positive and negative keywords to improve the accuracy of sentiment detection.

  • Positive Words List: Add words that typically convey a positive sentiment.

  • Negative Words List: Add words that usually indicate a negative sentiment.

To manage your customized sentiment words:

  1. Enter words into either the Positive or Negative list fields.

  2. Click Save to apply your changes.

  3. Use Cancel to discard any unsaved changes, or Reset to clear the lists.

The Samples Preview section displays mentions with the configured keywords highlighted, allowing you to see how the words influence sentiment classification in real-time. This feature helps tailor sentiment analysis to better reflect the context and tone relevant to your brand.

Project Name

For a better project management, add a unique project name.
This way, you'll find and manage your projects easier.

Delete Project

From the Project Settings area you can also delete your projects.

Once you click on Delete this project, a pop up similar with the one below will appear.

If you are sure that you want to delete the project, confirm the action.

Be aware that this is a process that cannot be reverted.

Re-run the project according to the new settings

Once you've made a change to your project settings, a message like the one displayed in the screenshot below will appear, informing you that you need to re-run your project, to be consistent to your newly edited settings.

We recommend you to perform all the settings that you need, and afterwards click to re-run your project.

Once you click to re-run your project according to the new changes you've made, you will be asked weather you want to:

  • Reanalyze existing mentions

  • Apply changes only to future mentions

Once you perform a change to your project settings and click on save and re-run, it might take a couple of minutes for the project to be done accordingly to your new settings.
