White Labeling Your BrandMentions App Domain: Complete Step-by-Step Guide

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Achieve maximum brand consistency by customizing your BrandMentions application URL and replacing all our branding with your own. This guide provides a step-by-step walkthrough for both our custom subdomain and custom domain white labeling options.

Initial Setup and Choosing Your Option

To begin the white label marketing setup process, navigate to the administrative area:

  1. Go to Reports.

  2. Select Whitelabeling.

  3. Click Enable WhiteLabeling for Application Domain & app.

Once you do so, you will have 2 possibilities:

Option A: Custom Subdomain Setup

This method ensures your brand name is in the URL without requiring any technical DNS changes.

Steps for Subdomain White Label:

  1. Input Branding: In the Subdomain section, enter the following:

    • The desired Subdomain Name (e.g., agencyreports).

    • Your official Company Name.

    • Upload your Logo (in the necessary formats).

  2. Save Changes: Click Update to apply the settings.

Immediate Results (User Experience):

  • Custom Login URL: Your team will now log in using your new custom URL (e.g., https://agencyreports.brandmentions.com/).

  • Branded Login Page: The login page is customized with your own logo and company name.

  • In-App Consistency: The BrandMentions logo is replaced with yours throughout the entire application interface.

Option B: Custom Domain Setup

This advanced option allows you to host the application entirely under your own custom domain (e.g., using a subdomain like app.yourcompany.com).

Step 1: Branding and Data Input

  1. Enter the full desired Domain Name (e.g., app.mycompanyreports.com).

  2. Provide your Company Name.

  3. Upload different versions of your logo for proper display.

Step 2: Critical DNS Configuration (CNAME Record)

You must now modify the Domain Name System (DNS) records for your domain.

  1. Access DNS: Log into your domain registrar's or hosting provider's control panel (e.g., GoDaddy, Cloudflare, DigitalOcean).

  2. Add Record: Create a new CNAME record.

  3. Set Name/Host: This should be your custom subdomain (e.g., app).

  4. Set Value/Target: This must be pointed to the BrandMentions domain: app.brandmentions.com. (Crucially, include the dot at the end).

⚠️ IMPORTANT: For detailed instructions on adding CNAME records, consult your specific domain provider's help documentation.

Here is an example how it can be done in DigitalOcean:

Name is the subdomain you want to use, and value should contain app.brandmentions.com. (with the dot at the end)

Step 3: SSL Installation and Activation

After you have completed the DNS configuration:

  1. System Detection: BrandMentions automatically detects the DNS changes and initiates the installation process for your custom domain.

  2. SSL Security: We install a free SSL certificate to ensure your custom domain is secure (https).

  3. Timeline: This manual installation of the SSL certificate can take 24-48 hours. All traffic from the unsecure http protocol will be automatically redirected to the secure https protocol.

  4. Confirmation: You will receive a final confirmation email once the process is complete and your custom domain is live.

Final Results (Seamless Integration):

  • The application URL and login page will fully reflect your own domain.

  • The BrandMentions logo will be completely replaced by your branding across the platform.
