How Do I Create a New Project in BrandMentions?

Updated over a week ago

Creating a project is the first step to start monitoring your brand, competitors, or any topic you want to track. A project helps BrandMentions collect and organize online mentions from across the web, social media, blogs, forums, and news sites.

Follow the steps below to create a project with BrandMentions.

1. Access the Project Setup

  1. Log in to your BrandMentions account.

  2. If this is your first project, the setup wizard will open automatically.

  3. If you already have other projects, click the Add New Project (+) button on your dashboard.

2. Choose the Project Creation Mode

You can create a project in two ways:

Standard (AI) Mode
This is the fastest and simplest way to get started. BrandMentions automatically suggests relevant keywords, hashtags, and sources to track based on what you enter.

Advanced Mode
This option gives you full control over your project setup. You can adjust keyword filters, match types, languages, sources, and monitoring frequency.

3. Create a Project Using Standard Mode

  1. Add Keywords
Type your brand name, product name, hashtags, or any topics you want to monitor. Press Enter after each keyword.
    Example: BrandMentions, @BrandMentions, #BrandMentions, brandmentions.com

  2. Select Languages
By default, BrandMentions monitors all languages and locations. You can narrow your results by selecting specific language that matter most to your audience.

  3. Review Keyword Suggestions
BrandMentions will analyze your keywords and suggest related terms, domains, and social profiles you may want to include.

  4. Start the Project
Click Start Project to complete setup. The system will begin collecting mentions immediately. It may take a few minutes to display your first results.

4. Create a Project Using Advanced Mode

The Advanced Mode allows more detailed control over what BrandMentions monitors.

Keywords to Track

  • Add your main keywords and choose a match type (Exact, Broad, or Case Sensitive).

  • Add “Filter Keywords” that must appear in the same mention to refine results.

  • Add “Excluded Keywords” to remove irrelevant mentions.

Sources
Select where BrandMentions should look for mentions. By default, all sources are included: social media, news, blogs, and forums. You can disable any source you do not need.

Languages and Countries
Choose which languages or countries to monitor. You can also exclude any that are not relevant to your project.

Monitoring Frequency
By default, BrandMentions checks for new mentions daily. If you want faster updates, you can enable Real-Time Monitoring.

5. Finalize and Launch Your Project

  1. Review all your settings to ensure accuracy.

  2. Click Start Project to launch.

  3. BrandMentions will begin collecting mentions and display them in your Mentions Feed.

When your project starts, it automatically includes mentions from the past 30 days. Depending on your subscription plan, you can request historical data for a longer period.

Tips for a Better Project Setup

  • Add all relevant variations of your brand or product names, including common misspellings and hashtags.

  • Use Excluded Keywords to avoid unrelated results.

  • Select the right combination of sources, languages, and countries to get high-quality insights.

  • For time-sensitive monitoring, such as campaign launches or brand crises, activate Real-Time Monitoring.

  • Check your Mentions Feed regularly to ensure your setup is performing as expected.

Creating a new project in BrandMentions is simple and flexible. Once your project is live, the platform continuously collects online mentions that match your keywords, helping you track brand visibility, sentiment, and market trends in real time.
