Required (or filter) and excluded keywords are powerful tools in BrandMentions that allow you to fine-tune your monitoring and get the most relevant results. By using these options effectively, you can eliminate noise and focus on the mentions that matter most to you.
Required Keywords (Filter Keywords)
A required keyword, also known as a filter keyword, is a word or phrase that must appear in a mention along with your main keyword. This is useful when your main keyword is a common word or has multiple meanings.
How to Use Required Keywords
To add a required keyword, go to your project's Settings and find the Keywords to track section. Next to your main keyword, you will see a field for Filter Keyword.
Example:
Let's say your company is called "Mustang" and you sell cars. If you only track the keyword "Mustang", you will get mentions of the car, the horse, and the airplane. To narrow down your results, you can add "car" and "Ford" as required keywords. This will ensure that you only see mentions that include "Mustang" and either "car" or "Ford".
Excluded Keywords
An excluded keyword is a word or phrase that, if present in a mention, will cause that mention to be excluded from your results. This is useful for filtering out irrelevant or spammy mentions.
How to Use Excluded Keywords
To add an excluded keyword, go to your project's Settings and find the Keywords to track section. Next to your main keyword, you will see a field for Excluded Keyword.
Example:
If your brand is "Apple" and you want to filter out mentions of the fruit, you can add "fruit" as an excluded keyword. This will remove any mentions that contain the word "fruit", even if they also contain "Apple".
By combining main keywords with required and excluded keywords, you can create a highly specific and accurate monitoring setup that delivers the insights you need without the noise.
