Sometimes you may want to exclude specific websites, domains, or social media accounts from your monitoring. This is useful for filtering out irrelevant sources, spam, or your own content. BrandMentions provides a simple Exclusions feature that allows you to do this.

How to Exclude Websites or Domains

To exclude specific websites or domains from your tracking, follow these steps:

1.Navigate to your project and click on the Settings tab.

2.Scroll down to the Sources>Exclusions section.

3.Under Exclude mentions from specific Domains or URLs, enter the domain or URL you want to exclude.

For example, if you want to exclude all mentions from your own website, you would enter yourwebsite.com. You can add multiple domains by entering each one on a separate line or separated by commas.

How to Exclude Social Media Accounts

To exclude specific social media accounts or authors from your tracking, follow these steps:

1.Navigate to your project and click on the Settings tab.

2.Scroll down to the Sources>Exclusions section.

3.Under Exclude mentions from specific social accounts, enter the social media handle or username you want to exclude.

For example, if you want to exclude mentions from your own Twitter account, you would enter @yourbrand. You can add multiple accounts by entering each one on a separate line or separated by commas.

What Gets Excluded?

When you add a domain or social account to the exclusions list, BrandMentions will no longer collect any mentions that originate from that source. This means:

For domains: Any article, blog post, or web page published on that domain will be excluded from your mentions.

•For social accounts: Any post, tweet, or comment made by that account will be excluded from your mentions.

Saving Your Exclusions

After you have added your exclusions, make sure to scroll down and click the Save button to apply your changes. From that point forward, BrandMentions will not collect mentions from the excluded sources.

By using the exclusions feature, you can ensure that your monitoring is focused on the most relevant and valuable mentions, giving you clearer insights into your brand's online presence.

Why Exclude Websites or Authors?

There are several reasons why you might want to exclude certain sources from your tracking:

•Remove Your Own Content: Exclude your own website or social media profiles to focus on what others are saying about your brand (earned media) rather than your own content (owned media).

Filter Out Spam: Some websites or accounts may generate spammy or irrelevant mentions. Excluding them helps to keep your data clean.

Eliminate Noise: If a particular website or author is generating a high volume of mentions that are not valuable to your analysis, you can exclude them to reduce noise.

Avoid Competitors' Owned Media: If you are monitoring competitors, you may want to exclude their own websites and social profiles to focus on third-party mentions.
