What Actions Can I Take On a Mention (Tag, Comment, Delete, BookMark, Etc.)?

Updated over a week ago

BrandMentions provides several actions you can take on each mention to help you organize, analyze, and respond to your brand's online conversations. Understanding these actions allows you to manage your mentions efficiently and extract maximum value from your monitoring efforts.

Available Actions for Each Mention

Each mention in your BrandMentions feed includes a set of action buttons that allow you to interact with and manage that mention. These actions help you organize your data, respond to important mentions, and maintain a clean, actionable mentions feed.

Visit

The Visit action opens the original source of the mention in a new browser tab or window. This allows you to view the full content in its original context, see any images or videos associated with the mention, read the complete conversation or article, and access additional information that may not be visible in the BrandMentions preview.

Visiting the source is essential when you want to respond to a mention, verify its content, or get a deeper understanding of the context in which your brand was mentioned.

Tag

The Tag action allows you to add custom tags to mentions for organization and categorization. Tags help you group similar mentions together, making it easier to filter and analyze specific types of content.

You can create custom tags for any categorization system that makes sense for your business. Common tagging strategies include categorizing by topic (product feedback, customer service, competitor mention), by priority (urgent, follow-up, low priority), by campaign (summer sale, product launch, holiday promotion), by sentiment (positive review, complaint, neutral), or by department (marketing, sales, customer support).

To tag a mention, click the Tag button and either select an existing tag or create a new one. You can apply multiple tags to a single mention if needed.

Block

The Block action allows you to exclude specific sources from future tracking. When you block a source, BrandMentions will no longer collect mentions from that domain or social media account.

This action is useful for filtering out spam, irrelevant sources, or low-quality content that is cluttering your mentions feed. Once a source is blocked, it is added to your exclusions list and all future mentions from that source will be automatically filtered out.

Use the block action carefully, as it permanently excludes the source from your monitoring. Make sure you want to stop tracking mentions from that source before blocking it.

Add to PDF Report

The Add to PDF Report action allows you to mark mentions for inclusion in a PDF report. This is useful when you want to compile a selection of important or representative mentions to share with stakeholders, clients, or team members.

Mentions that you add to PDF reports are tagged with a special "PDF mentions" tag, making it easy to filter and view all mentions that have been marked for reporting. You can then generate a custom PDF report that includes only these selected mentions, along with relevant analytics and insights.

Delete

The Delete action removes a mention from your feed permanently. This action is useful for removing spam, duplicate content, or mentions that are not relevant to your monitoring goals.

Be cautious when using the delete action, as deleted mentions cannot be recovered. Make sure you want to permanently remove the mention before deleting it. In most cases, using the Block action to exclude the source is a better option, as it prevents future mentions from that source while preserving historical data.

Bulk Actions

In addition to taking actions on individual mentions, BrandMentions also supports bulk actions that allow you to manage multiple mentions at once. This is useful when you need to tag, delete, or add multiple mentions to a report simultaneously.

To perform bulk actions, select multiple mentions using the checkboxes next to each mention, then choose the desired action from the bulk actions menu.

Best Practices for Managing Mentions

To make the most of mention actions and keep your mentions feed organized, develop a consistent workflow for reviewing and acting on new mentions. Tag mentions as you review them to build an organized database of categorized content. Use the block action to filter out persistent spam or irrelevant sources. Regularly review your tags and adjust your tagging system as your needs evolve. Add important mentions to PDF reports to create a library of notable content for sharing and reference.

By effectively using the available mention actions, you can transform your BrandMentions feed from a stream of raw data into a well-organized, actionable resource for brand management and analysis.
