Hashtags Count Filter - Show Mentions by Hashtag Count

Updated over 2 months ago

The Hashtags Count Filter allows you to filter mentions based on the number of hashtags they contain. This is a helpful way to distinguish between different types of social media posts. For example, posts with many hashtags often indicate promotional or marketing-oriented content, while posts with fewer hashtags tend to be more organic or conversational in nature.

Using this filter gives you deeper insight into how people are posting about your brand or campaign and helps you refine your social media analysis by identifying the intent or style behind each mention.

How to Use the Hashtags Count Filter

The Hashtags Count Filter is available as an Advanced Filter option in the right side of the Dashboard. It allows you to define a numerical range for the number of hashtags within a mention.

  1. Access Advanced Filters
In your Mentions Dashboard, open the advanced filtering or search options.

  2. Find the Hashtags Count Filter
Locate the filter labeled “Hashtag Count.”

  3. Set Your Criteria
Define a minimum and/or maximum number of hashtags to include in your search. For example, filtering for mentions with more than 5 hashtags can help you identify posts that are heavily tagged or promotional, while filtering for 1 or 2 hashtags might highlight more personal, user-generated content.

Once applied, your mentions feed will automatically update to show only the posts that fit the specified range.

Tips and Best Practices

  • Identify spammy content
Posts containing an unusually high number of unrelated hashtags are often low-quality or spammy. Use this filter to detect and exclude such posts from your monitoring results for cleaner, more reliable insights.

  • Analyze different post types
The number of hashtags used can reveal different content strategies or user behaviors. For example, you can compare posts with minimal hashtags (authentic discussions) against those with many hashtags (marketing or influencer activity).

  • Refine your search
Combine the Hashtags Count Filter with the Hashtags Text Filter to narrow your analysis. This allows you to find mentions that not only use a specific hashtag but also meet a certain hashtag volume profile, offering a more precise view of posting habits around your campaign or topic.

Conclusion: Distinguish Content by Hashtag Behavior

The Hashtags Count Filter helps you segment social media mentions based on posting style and intent. By focusing on the number of hashtags used, you can separate genuine conversations from promotional content, identify spammy posts, and gain a better understanding of how users engage with your brand.

When combined with other filters such as Hashtags Text, Sentiment, or Reach, it becomes a powerful tool for analyzing campaign quality, audience behavior, and engagement strategies across platforms.
