How Do I Use Tags to Organize Mentions?

Updated yesterday

As your project gathers hundreds or even thousands of mentions, keeping them organized becomes essential for effective analysis and workflow management. BrandMentions provides a flexible tagging system that lets you categorize, label, and organize your mentions in a way that fits your business needs.

Think of tags as custom folders or labels that help you group related mentions together for easy access later whether for reporting, collaboration, or follow-up actions. This system ensures that your mentions remain structured and easy to navigate, even in large-scale monitoring projects.

How to Use Tags

Tagging mentions is quick and intuitive, and you can do it directly from your Mentions Dashboard.

  1. Select a Mention to Tag
Locate the mention you want to categorize in your Mentions feed.

  2. Click the “Tag” Button
Each mention includes a set of action buttons—click the Tag icon to open the tagging dialog.

  3. Create or Apply a Tag
In the tagging dialog, you can:

    • Create a New Tag: Enter a descriptive name that fits your workflow, such as Customer Feedback, Product Ideas, or Urgent Response Needed.

    • Apply an Existing Tag: Choose from previously created tags to categorize mentions consistently.

  4. Filter by Tag
After tagging mentions, you can easily organize and review them by using the Tags section in the right sidebar. Clicking on a tag filters your mentions feed to display only those labeled with that specific tag.

Tips and Best Practices for Organization

  • Use the “Untagged” Filter
The Untagged filter in the Tags panel helps you find mentions that haven’t been categorized yet. Make it a routine part of your workflow to tag all unorganized mentions.

  • Automate with PDF Reports
When adding mentions to reports, use the Add to PDF Report action. This automatically assigns a PDF Mentions tag, making it easy to track which items are included in your exported reports.

  • Establish a consistent tagging system
Define clear tagging rules before you begin. A consistent approach ensures that your entire team can use and understand the tags effectively.

    Common tagging strategies include:

    • Topic or Theme: Group mentions related to specific campaigns, product lines, or topics.

    • Priority Level: Use tags like High Priority or Urgent to flag mentions requiring immediate attention.

    • Departmental Responsibility: Assign mentions to relevant teams, such as Marketing, Sales, or Support.

    • Sentiment Context: Add nuance to sentiment analysis by tagging Positive mentions as Testimonials or Negative mentions as Product Issues.
