How Do I Import Mentions from an External Source into BrandMentions?

Updated yesterday

BrandMentions allows you to import mentions from external sources so you can consolidate all your monitoring data in one central place. This feature is especially useful if you have:

  • Mentions collected from another monitoring tool.

  • A list of URLs, articles, or posts you’ve gathered manually.

  • Mentions from sources that BrandMentions doesn’t automatically crawl.

You can import data in two ways:

  • by uploading a CSV file containing multiple mentions at once or

  • by adding individual mentions manually.

How to Import Mentions

Importing with a CSV File

If you have multiple mentions to import, the CSV upload is the fastest and most efficient option.

  1. Go to the Import Feature:
From your Mentions dashboard, click the “Import” button (usually located near “Export” and “Update Data”).

    2. Prepare Your CSV File:
Create a CSV file using the CSV format suggested so that BrandMentions can read the data.

    3. Upload Your File:
Select and upload your prepared CSV file.

    4. Start the Import:
Confirm and start the import. Your mentions will appear in the feed once the process is complete.

Importing Individual Mentions

If you only need to add a few mentions manually:

  1. Click “Add Mention”
Click Add Mention in the Import section to manually add a single mention.

  2. Enter the Mention Details:
Add the URL, title, content snippet, and date manually.

  3. Save the Mention:
Once saved, the mention will appear in your feed, where you can tag, analyze, and include it in reports.

Tips and Best Practices

  • Check Formatting First: Before uploading, confirm your CSV file follows the correct structure listed in the import interface to prevent errors.

  • Import in Batches: For large datasets, split your imports into smaller files for smoother processing.

  • Verify Imported Mentions: After import, review the added mentions to ensure all details like URLs and dates are accurate.
