How Do I Delete Mentions from My Project?

Updated yesterday

BrandMentions allows you to delete individual mentions or remove multiple mentions in bulk to keep your project data clean, accurate, and focused. This feature is especially useful for getting rid of spam, irrelevant mentions, or test data, helping you maintain a reliable dataset for reporting and analysis.

Deleting mentions permanently removes them from your project, so they will no longer appear in your feed, reports, or analytics. Use this option carefully to ensure that only unnecessary mentions are deleted.

How to Delete a Mention

You can delete mentions directly from your Mentions Dashboard in just a few steps:

  1. Locate the Mention
Browse your mentions feed to find the mention you want to remove.

  2. Click the “Delete” Action
Hover over the mention to reveal the action buttons. Click the trash can icon labeled Delete.

  3. Mention Removed
Once deleted, the mention will be permanently deleted and excluded from your analytics and reports.

How to Delete Mentions in Bulk

For faster cleanup, BrandMentions also allows you to delete multiple mentions at once.

  1. Select Mentions to Delete
In your Mentions Dashboard, hover over each mention and click the checkbox in the top-right corner of the mention card. You can select multiple mentions this way.

    • To select all mentions on the page, click Select all at the top of the purple action bar.

  2. Click the Delete Icon

Click the trash can icon in the top action bar to delete the selected mentions.

  3. Mentions Removed

The deleted mentions will be permanently removed from your project feed and excluded from analytics, reports, and exports.

Bulk deletion is ideal for cleaning up large volumes of spam or irrelevant mentions in a single action.

When to Delete Mentions

Deleting mentions is appropriate when you want to:

  • Remove Spam: Eliminate bot-generated or promotional content that slipped through filters.

  • Clear Irrelevant Mentions: Delete mentions that use your keywords in unrelated contexts (e.g., “Apple” referring to fruit instead of the brand).

  • Clean Up Test Data: Remove mentions added during keyword testing or setup phases before formal analysis begins.

Alternative: Use the Block Feature

If you consistently receive irrelevant mentions from the same source, domain, or author, deleting them one by one isn’t efficient. Instead, use the Block feature.

  • How It Works: The Block button, located next to each mention, lets you block an entire source or author. Future mentions from that source will no longer appear in your feed.

  • When to Use It: Use Block for recurring spam sources or low-quality websites to prevent unwanted mentions from appearing again.
