Filter with AI - Extract Specific Insights from Your Mentions

Updated over 2 weeks ago

The BrandMentions' Filter with AI tool allows you to go beyond traditional keyword filtering by using natural language to find exactly what you’re looking for. Instead of manually sifting through thousands of mentions, you can simply describe the specific context, sentiment, or topic you want to isolate.

This feature is powered by advanced AI that understands the intent behind your request, making it easier than ever to uncover high-value feedback, competitive intelligence, or specific customer pain points.

How to Use the Filter with AI

You can access the Filter with AI tool directly from your Mentions Dashboard to refine your current data set.

1. Open the AI Filter

Click on the "Filter with AI" button located at the top of your mentions feed. You can use this filter in the Mentions or Analytics section.

2. Describe Your Goal

Once you click on it, a pop up will open, similar to the one below.
In the text box, type a natural language description of what you want to see.

  • Example: "Find customers who are comparing Your Brand with Your Competitor's pricing and seem unhappy."

  • Character Limit: You can use up to 500 characters to be as specific as possible.

  • Natural Language Processing: Unlike standard filters that rely on exact word matches, this AI interprets the nuance of human speech, allowing you to search for abstract concepts like "frustration," "intent to buy," or "sarcastic praise." This semantic understanding transforms your database from a list of words into a searchable map of human emotion and consumer intent.

3. Use Quick Start Templates

If you aren’t sure where to begin, select one of the Quick Start Templates at the bottom of the window:

  • Pricing & Discounts: Find users complaining about costs.

  • Feature Requests: Isolate suggestions for product improvements.

  • Competitor Comparisons: See how you stack up against the market.

  • Praise & Recommendations: Identify your brand advocates.

4. Apply and View

Click "Apply Filter" to update your feed. The dashboard will now display only the mentions that match your AI-driven description.

4. Save AI Filter for later usage

Once you have crafted the perfect prompt, you can save your Filter with AI configuration to your dashboard for instant access in the future. Saving an AI filter allows you to run reports on this specific segment only, enabling you to generate deep-dive analytics and visual charts tailored to the exact audience or sentiment you’ve isolated.

Tips and Best Practices

  • Be Specific: Instead of just typing "pricing," try "users who think our new subscription tier is too expensive compared to last year." The more context you provide, the more accurate the results.

  • Monitor Your Quota: The top right of the filter window shows your usage (e.g., "0 of 10 used this month"). Each AI-powered search counts toward your monthly limit.

  • Identify Sales Opportunities: Use the filter to find "people looking for recommendations for a tool like [Your Product]." This allows your sales team to jump into relevant conversations immediately.

  • Crisis Management: During a PR event or product outage, use the AI filter to isolate "users expressing extreme frustration or mentioning technical bugs" to prioritize your support response.

Conclusion: Data Mining Made Simple

The Filter with AI takes the heavy lifting out of data analysis. By describing your needs in plain English, you can turn a mountain of mentions into a curated list of actionable insights in seconds.

Whether you are tracking a competitor's weakness or hunting for your next big product idea, this tool ensures you never miss the "why" behind the mentions.
